Thyroid

The Thyroid Region

The thyroid gland is known as an endocrine gland that helps regulate your body's metabolism. The gland is located in your lower neck just above your clavicles in the midline. The thyroid gland may either be hyperactive which means it is producing too much thyroid hormone or it might be hypoactive which means it is not producing enough thyroid hormone. Many conditions of the thyroid gland can be treated with medications through your primary care physician or an endocrinologist to regulate hormone production.

Sometimes nodules or abnormal growths can occur within the gland.  The majority of nodules are completely benign and do not require removal. If a nodule grows, if a nodule becomes excessively large, or if a nodule has an abnormal appearance on imaging such as ultrasound or CT scan, a biopsy may be necessary. Depending on the biopsy results the thyroid gland sometimes needs to be removed either partially or totally. The doctors at Queen City Ear, Nose, and Throat are excellent surgeons that perform these types of procedures.

If you or a family member have a thyroid nodule call Queen City Ear Nose and Throat at (704) 703-1080 or book an appointment online today.
