At Queen City Ear Nose and Throat we offer three different types of curbside COVID testing.
All tests are performed with a nasal swab.
- Rapid PCR COVID/Flu A and B/RSV Test: A curbside nasal swab is performed and results are available within approximately 1 hour. For patients with symptoms, this evaluation and test (performed in our office) can be billed through the patient's insurance. Patients should not have any out-of-pocket costs during the public health emergency, but you should check with your health plan to confirm before scheduling a test. If this test is performed for exposure, travel, work requirements, or other reasons that do not include symptoms, this test will not be billed through insurance and will cost $150 per patient. (Blakeney Location Only)
- Standard COVID PCR Test: A curbside nasal swab is performed and the patient will be contacted with the results, typically available within 2-3 days. For patients with symptoms, this evaluation and test (performed by an outside lab) can be billed through insurance. Patients should not have any out-of-pocket costs during the public health emergency, but you should check with your health plan to confirm before scheduling a test.
If this test is performed for exposure, travel, work requirement, or other reasons that do not include symptoms, the evaluation will not be billed through insurance and will cost $75 per patient. For patients with exposure and no symptoms the lab charge for the PCR test should not have any out-of-pocket costs during the public health emergency, but you should check with your health plan to confirm before scheduling a test. For patients having the test for travel, work requirement or other reasons that do not have symptoms or exposure, a charge of $75 per patient will be billed by the lab that performs the test. - Rapid COVID Antigen Test: A curbside nasal swab is performed and the patient’s results are available within approximately 30 minutes. This test is not billed through insurance. The cost of the test is $100 per patient. Note: This test can have false negative results at a higher rate than PCR testing.
PCR testing: PCR testing is a molecular test and is considered the “gold standard” in SARS-CoV-2 detection. This test actually detects RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even those who have no symptoms.
Antigen test: Antigen testing detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus.
